The music is best defined as indie-country, as their sound can be as varied as the instrumentation they choose. The core members of the group are Tom Skora (acoustic guitar, lead vocals, and harmonica), Joshua DeSmidt (Lap-steel guitar, banjo, harmonium, and electric guitar), and Patrick Anderson (Pedal Steel Guitar).

The Broken Spoke released their self-produced debut album in November 2010, entitled 'Before There Were Easy Riders'. Easy Riders was recorded live in the studio, using a reel to reel, ¼ inch, 8 track tape machine and is distributed online through I-tunes and Amazon.com.
The music ranges from acoustic folk to roots and Americana sounds; from old time country ballads to hook laden rock-n-roll.

'The Broken Spoke has an honest affinity for heartbreaks, hometowns and traditional American music. ‘Before There Were Easy Riders' is filled with the kind of grit and sadness that's hard to find in commercial country music'. Eryc Eyl, Denver Post Reverb

'At times reminds me of classic '70s country rock in the "veins" of The Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival or some Gram Parsons/Flying Burrito Brothers action. At other times, like during the infectious gypsy fiddle jam "Barbara Lasso," the desperate, snarled twang of the Violent Femmes' Gordon Gano blisters on the surface like a fresh sunburn'. Adam Leech, Colorado Springs Independent

November of 2011 will see the release of the Broken Spoke's 2nd album.
Because of the variety of sounds that the Broken Spoke makes in a night, there is always something that listeners from 20 to 80 years old can enjoy, and it is not uncommon to see the dance floor filled with people from many different backgrounds bumping elbows or swinging to a 2-step.

The Broken Spoke has had the opportunity to share the stage with such great bands as Hot Buttered Rum String Band, Willy Tea Taylor, Tom VandenAvond, John Doe, The Thrift Store Cowboys, Brad Hoshaw, Eddie Spaghetti (the Supersuckers), Larry and His Flask, Casey Neill and the Norway Rats, Mason Reed, Foxhunt, and many others, and they look forward to playing for your crowd too.

About BJ Estares and Route 61: A native of San Diego, singer/songwriter BJ 'Beej' Estares grew up in Southern California heavily influenced by jazz and big band music thanks to his dad's eclectic taste. After moving to music saturated Los Angeles at the age of twelve, his parents gleefully helped him trade his drum set for an acoustic guitar. He then proceeded to wear out the grooves of every Wes Montgomery LP he could get his hands on. At fourteen, his brother turned him on to Janis Joplin's 'Turtle Blues'. From that day the poor boy has been lost in the blues forever.
Turning to the British Blues scene through the Stones and Ry Cooder, he discovered bluesmen like John Mayall, Eric Clapton, John Martyn and their contemporaries. This led him to the American artists that influenced them, Robert Johnson, Muddy, John Lee, and the 'Three Kings': Albert, Freddie and BB, to name a distinguished few.
At sixteen, luck, or perhaps, fate put Beej front row-center in front of the legendary bottle neck artist Fury Louis. After being helped out on to the stage, the then 78 year old Louis exposed his secrets to all those in the Pasadena City Aud who were astute enough to take notes.

Fast forward to Colorado Springs, 2007: After collaborating for two years, writing, learning cover songs, re-arranging and playing small gigs to find 'the groove", Beej and road dog bassist/guitarist Randy Hawke of Salt Lake City agree that percussion would add a deeper dimension. Enter Lenny Perreault from San Jose, Ca., encouraged by the wisdom and guidance of friend and former Santana percussionist Frank Yanes, on congas and back-up vocals.
Most recently, the guys are joined by veteran studio musician, performer and sound engineer Doug Stepanek of San Diego, Ca. on the trap set and back-up vocals. Adding further depth to the group is family friend and former band mate, Bryan Curl from Kansas City, Mo. on blues harp, rythm guitar and back up vocals.

About 2 Hour Delay:
Jamie Lugo: vocals
Julie Novak: vocals
Robin Theryoung: vocals and guitar
Randy Witte: guitar
All four members of 2 Hour Delay are Teachers of the Blind. We love our students, but when school is out, Jamie, Julie and Robin enjoy singing two and three-part harmonies while Randy picks on his Martin OM guitar. Some listeners have compared our three lady singers to the Wailin' Jennys and the Dixie Chicks, but we have hotter chicks, and ours come with state credentials! As teachers, nothing brightens up our day quite like the news that we are on a 2 hour delay&#150so naming our band that seemed like a perfect idea. Although we have only been performing together in the Colorado Springs area for a little over a year, our acoustic/pop/folk sounds have gained a large folowing which won us second place in the People's Choice category of the 2011 Indy Music Awards. 2 Hour Delay promises its audience good times and good music&#150but we can't give you permission to show up to work at 10am!
*Winners of the 2010 PLACE Battle of the Bands*
Visit us online at: http://www.myspace.com/2hourdelaymusic

Opera Theatre of the Rockies presents La Traviata

Opera Theatre of the Rockies is pleased to announce its exciting 2012 Season, A Season of Love and Liaisons. The season begins with Giuseppe Verdi's timeless classic La Traviata, based on a play adapted from a French novel by Alexandre Dumas called 'Lady of the Camellias.'

La Traviata is an epic love story for the ages and has become the second most performed opera worldwide. It has not been performed in its entirety in Colorado Springs since 1988 when Martile Rowland sang the lead role of Violetta at the Pikes Peak Center to rave reviews.

Martile Rowland, Founder and Artistic Director of Opera Theatre of the Rockies, says that La Traviata holds a special place in her heart and she is very excited to be bringing it back to the Pikes Peak Center.

'When Donald Jenkins asked me to sing the part of Violetta in La Traviata for the Colorado Opera Festival in 1988, it was a life-altering event,' said Rowland. 'That performance run was the last time audiences in Colorado Springs saw one of the most beautiful of all operas fully staged in our community.'

Rowland said that those memorable performances opened doors to opera houses around the world. 'I have sung many performances of Violetta in the years since, but those 1988 performances are the most dear and special ones to me,' she said. 'Now I am excited to give this same opportunity to a very gifted Colorado artist, Annamarie Zmolek.'

Described by American Record Guide as 'memorable and stunning,' recent Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition prizewinner Annamarie Zmolek is quickly emerging as one of the finest young sopranos in the Southwest, performing a wide variety of operatic, concert and sacred repertoire throughout the region. This spring she is looking forward to her role debut as Violetta in La Traviata with Opera Theatre of the Rockies, and will reprise the role with Sparkling City Light Opera in the fall. Other upcoming engagements include Venus in Venus and Adonis with Lone Star College and Musetta in La Bohème with Green Mountain Opera Festival.

A native of Colorado, Ms. Zmolek has performed frequently with Opera Theatre of the Rockies, including the roles of Frasquita in Carmen and Countess in Le nozze di Figaro. She spent several summers at the Colorado College Vocal Arts Symposium, where she sang in scenes as Gilda (Rigoletto), Elvira (I Puritani), Beth (Little Women), Birdie (Regina), and Constance (Dialogues des Carmelites). She won first prize in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition in 2008. Other recent Colorado performances include the soprano solos in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (Colorado College Summer Music Festival) and Mendelssohn's Elijah (First Presbyterian Church, Colorado Springs).

Joining Ms. Zmolek in La Traviata are seasoned performers Joel Burcham (headshot attached), who will sing the role of Alfredo Germont and Jacob Lassetter (headshot attached), who will perform as Giorgio Germont.

La Traviata is an age-old love story with a common theme &#150 fighting to keep a mutual love alive with one partner from a modest, poor background and the other from the upper class. Because of the timeless message of this beautiful opera, La Traviata has also become a fixture in pop culture through such famous films as 1963's Camille, starring Greta Garbo, and 2001's hugely successful Moulin Rouge, starring Nicole Kidman.

For more information, visit the Opera Theatre of the Rockies website
